Training & Credentials

A physician first

Dr. Fatima Mahdi earned her Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Calgary and completed her Family Medicine residency at McMaster University. She is currently an emergency physician in Alliston, Ontario.

She is registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO #115421). Her registration status can be verified publicly at the CPSO Physician Search.

Beyond her medical credentials, Dr. Mahdi has completed extensive specialized training in medical aesthetics, focused exclusively on neuromodulators (Botox and equivalents) and hyaluronic acid dermal filler. She has chosen not to offer threads, energy-based devices, weight-loss injections, or other services, preferring depth in two disciplines over breadth in many.

Why it matters

Why emergency medicine matters for injectables

An emergency physician spends her career in rooms where small decisions have large consequences, where anatomy is unforgiving, and where recognizing an unusual pattern quickly is the difference between a good outcome and a bad one. That background translates directly to injectable aesthetics:

1. Anatomical knowledge. ER physicians work with facial trauma routinely. Dr. Mahdi knows the course of the facial artery, the angular artery, the infraorbital vessels, and the supratrochlear nerve, not from a weekend course, but from years of practice.

2. Vascular complication management. The rare but serious filler complication is vascular occlusion. If it happens, the next ten minutes determine the outcome. Dr. Mahdi has managed occluded vessels in emergency contexts, not hypothetically, but in person.

3. Pattern recognition. In aesthetics, this shows up as knowing when not to treat. Dr. Mahdi has declined filler on patients with concerning skin findings, unstable medical conditions, or treatment histories that suggested body dysmorphia. That judgment takes training.

4. Calm under unexpected outcomes. Most patients never experience a complication. Some do. When they do, they want the person injecting them to have spent their career handling harder things than a filler bruise.

"The best aesthetic work is the work that goes unnoticed. People should notice you look rested and refreshed, not that you've had something done."

Philosophy of Practice

Three principles

Restoration, not inflation. Filler, done well, replaces what time has taken, it does not add what was never there. Botox softens movement; it does not freeze expression.

Ethics before revenue. You will never be upsold at Faces Aesthetics. Dr. Mahdi has turned away patients whose requested treatment plans she felt were inappropriate. Her practice is not incentivized to move product.

Conservative dosing, incremental building. First-time patients receive conservative doses, with a complimentary two-week follow-up and additional units added if needed. Over-treating and waiting for it to wear off is not a strategy we use.

Specialization

What Faces Aesthetics does not do

We believe specialization produces better outcomes than generalization. You won't find any of these here:

  • Microneedling, dermaplaning, hydrafacials
  • Laser hair removal, IPL, fractional resurfacing
  • Threads, PDO lifts
  • Weight-loss injections (Ozempic / semaglutide / etc.)
  • PRP, PRF, vampire facials
  • Chemical peels and sclerotherapy
  • Body contouring, CoolSculpting

If you want any of the above, we'll happily refer you to a trusted colleague. What we do here is two things, extraordinarily well: Botox and hyaluronic acid filler.
